We want every user to print with confidence, fully understanding why your printer performs certain maintenance actions, what they do, and how they protect your print quality.
These actions aren't "wasted ink." They're part of a carefully designed maintenance system that keeps your printer running smoothly, your colors accurate, and your prints consistent.
Meanwhile, we're continuously improving these routines to make them smarter, faster, and more ink-efficient — and many of those improvements are already live, including condition-based pre-print priming and flexible moisturizing modes.
Initial Ink Injection
When your printer is powered on for the first time or restored to factory settings, it performs an Initial Ink Injection.
- It first flushes out the moisturizing fluid that was pre-filled in the printhead to keep it protected during storage.
- It then draws fresh ink into the internal tubes, preparing the system for stable, high-quality printing.
Replacing ink cartridges alone will not trigger this process again.
Pre-Print Priming
Before printing, the printer performs a short pre-print priming only when certain conditions are met. This step ensures the printhead is in perfect condition before ink touches the surface. It ensures higher print success rates and minimizes the chance of defects and material waste. The ink used for pre-print priming is not included in the ink usage estimation for each print project.
Trigger conditions:
- More than 12 hours have passed since the last priming (performing cleaning or ink injection resets this timer)
- The first print job after a device restart or OTA update
- Resuming a paused print job
It helps:
- Stabilize ink flow and pressure
- Ensure consistent colors from the first layer
White Ink Recovery
White ink contains pigment particles that can settle when the printer is idle. If white ink consumption over the past 36 hours is less than 3ml, the printer automatically performs White Ink Recovery before printing, recirculating the ink to prevent faded or uneven whites caused by sedimentation.
This feature is enabled by default but can be manually disabled on the Print Preparation page. You can also start White Ink Recovery manually from the Device Page.
Automatic Maintenance
System-initiated at regular intervals or during idle periods, aimed at preventing printhead drying or clogging to maintain long-term stability.
Auto Flash Clean - quick refresh, minimal ink use
Auto Flash Clean is a quick maintenance process that refreshes the printhead while consuming very little ink. It does not require ink injection, so printing can resume immediately after it finishes.
Auto Deep Cleaning - for frequent or daily printing
When the printer is used heavily or on a daily basis, it automatically performs a deep cleaning at your scheduled maintenance time if no deep cleaning or moisturizing (manual or automatic) has occurred within the past 72 hours.
You can adjust the scheduled time and configure an advance reminder under Printer Settings > Maintenance. After Auto Deep Cleaning finishes, the printhead remains soaking in cleaning fluid, and ink injection is required before printing can resume.
Automatic Moisturizing - for occasional printing or idle periods
When the printer is not used for an extended period, residual ink can dry out and clog the printhead nozzles. To prevent this, the printer periodically soaks the printhead in moisturizing fluid. There are now three moisturizing modes — Auto, Flexible, and Storage — so you can choose the one that best suits your printing frequency and schedule (configured under Printer Settings > Maintenance > Moisturizing mode).
- Auto Mode (default): If the printer has been idle for 24 consecutive hours without printing, it automatically performs one moisturizing cycle at your scheduled time (default 2:00, adjustable). No further action is needed.
- Flexible Mode: Before the scheduled maintenance time, the printer asks whether you plan to print within the next 48 hours. If you do, this moisturizing cycle is skipped — saving cleaning fluid and moisturizing fluid. If printing still does not occur, Enhanced Flash Clean runs every 6 hours starting from hour 48, and moisturizing runs automatically after a full 72 hours, so the printhead is never at risk.
- Storage Mode: For extended periods of inactivity (e.g., business trips or relocation). See the Storage Mode & Safe Shutdown section below.
When your machine is in a moisturized state, it will not consume any additional moisturizing fluid or ink.
Storage Mode
For normal use, keep the device powered on so automatic maintenance can function normally.
If you will not be using the device for an extended period, you can enter Storage Mode in either of these ways:
- Select Storage under Moisturizing mode in Printer Settings > Maintenance, or tap Enter Storage Mode on the Device Status Home Page.
- Alternatively, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Upon entering Storage Mode, the printer immediately performs one moisturizing cycle (approximately 7 min 30 s). The printhead then remains soaked in moisturizing fluid for long-term protection, and you can safely power off the printer — it will not consume any additional moisturizing fluid or ink while stored.
To resume printing: power on the printer, tap Inject Ink on the Device Status Home Page, and wait for ink injection to complete. The moisturizing mode automatically switches back to the mode you last used.
Manual Cleaning
While automatic maintenance helps prevent potential issues, manual cleaning is designed to resolve print quality problems that may occur during use. The more severe the print quality issue, the higher the cleaning level you should select.
If you notice color shifts or irregularities in your output, you can conduct these actions below (via Device Page > Cleaning / Deep Cleaning):
- Cleaning (Standard) – improves ink output stability for minor color deviations or unstable ink output (≈ 0.2ml ink per channel)
- Enhanced Cleaning – double-intensity standard cleaning (≈ 0.4ml ink per channel)
- Deep Cleaning – thorough ink-path cleaning for mild-to-moderate printhead clogs or noticeable print defects (≈ 1.5ml ink + 1.83ml cleaning fluid per channel)
- Enhanced Deep Cleaning – intensive cleaning for severe clogs, a printhead left idle for an extended period, or frequent missing lines (≈ 2ml ink + 0.5ml cleaning fluid per channel)
After Deep Cleaning is complete, the system automatically performs ink injection. Once ink injection finishes, the printer is ready for normal use again.
Improvements Delivered & Future Plan
Smarter Maintenance — Now Live
Many of the improvements we previously announced are now part of your printer's maintenance system:
- Condition-based pre-print priming: priming now runs based on print intervals (12-hour rule) rather than before every job, reducing ink use for frequent users.
- Flexible maintenance options: adjustable Auto Deep Cleaning / Auto Moisturizing schedules with advance reminders, plus three moisturizing modes (Auto / Flexible / Storage) so maintenance aligns with your printing plan.
- White Ink Recovery: automatic white-ink recirculation that prevents faded whites caused by pigment sedimentation.
We're also evaluating an optimized initialization process designed to lower ink usage during setup without compromising the exceptional print quality.
