CREATIVA Dortmund 2026 is widely recognised as Europe’s largest exhibition dedicated to creative design, crafts, and DIY culture.

Since its launch in 1982, the event has grown from a regional craft gathering into a major international meeting point for makers, artists, hobbyists, and creative businesses.

Every year, thousands of visitors come to explore new materials, tools, and techniques across a wide range of creative disciplines.

Organised by Messe Dortmund, the fair brings together traditional crafts and modern creative technology. Visitors can discover everything from textiles and jewellery design to painting, illustration, decoration, and contemporary DIY tools.

For anyone interested in crafting, handmade design, or creative entrepreneurship, CREATIVA offers a rare opportunity to see the full spectrum of the European maker scene in one place.

4 Tips for Visiting CREATIVA Dortmund

1.Plan Your Route

The exhibition halls are extensive, so reviewing the hall plan before arriving can help you focus on the areas that interest you most.

If you want to avoid the busiest periods, it is often a good idea to start with the larger halls earlier in the day.

2.Start Early

The fair opens at 09:00, and mornings are usually the best time to explore before the halls become crowded.

3.Lighten Your Load

Checkrooms are available at the North and West entrances for a small fee (€2.00 per item). While trolleys/suitcases are allowed in the halls, you can store them here to move more freely.

4.Take Time to Explore Dortmund

Once the exhibition closes at 18:00, it is worth spending some time exploring the surrounding city.

You can visit the nearby Kreuzviertel district for independent cafés and restaurants, or take the subway to Westenhellweg for more shopping.

Why CREATIVA Dortmund Is Worth Visiting

For anyone interested in crafts, design, and creative entrepreneurship, CREATIVA Dortmund offers something unique.

It is not only a place to shop for materials or discover new products. The exhibition brings together the wider European maker community, offering inspiration, learning opportunities, and a chance to see how traditional crafts and modern technology continue to evolve.

If you enjoy DIY projects, handmade design, or creative tools, this event is easily one of the most interesting creative fairs in Europe.
